Found in eastern Los Angeles County, California, Walnut is home to over 26,660 residents according to the 2010 census. The city's name originated from the Rancho Los Nogales land grant, the word nogales meaning “walnut trees” in Spanish. The California Black walnut is commonly found throughout San Jose Hills and the surrounding areas. A general law city, Walnut is governed by the city council/manager form of government. Incorporated in 1959, on January 19th, Walnut was ranked among “America's Best Small Towns” by Money's Best Places to Live, it ranked at #70 in 2009 and #57 in 2011, the highest ranking California city both years.
