Officially called the City of Santa Clarita, this city is the third largest in Los Angeles County, 18th in the state. Santa Clarita is home to over 209,130 residents. It was ranked as one of the best places to live by Money Magazine in 2006, at number 18 on a list of 100. Incorporate in December of 1987 after the union of several existing communities, Santa Clarita is a good example of a U.S. edge city, a concentration of businesses outside a traditional downtown area. The city is bordered by the Golden State Freeway, or I-5, on the west. The city is often associated with its neighboring sites like Six Flags Magic Mountain and California Institute of the arts.
