Found in the San Fernando Valley of Los Angeles County, San Fernando is home to over 23,640 residents and is entirely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles. The city was nearly annexed by Los Angeles but because of its abundant groundwater supply it was able to remain its own city. In the decade following World War II, the San Fernando Valley was readily transformed from a predominantly agricultural region into a suburb, but the city of San Fernando kept its independence. Many freeways serve the area of San Fernando, including the 5, 210, 118, and 405.
