Found in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, San Dimas is home to 33,371 residents as recorded by the 2010 census. The city takes its name from San Dimas Canyon found in the San Gabriel mountains. Its name is in Spanish after Saint Dimas. After the arrival of the Los Angeles and San Gabriel Valley Railroad, later bought by Santa Fe Railroad, a great land boom occurred resulting in the establishment of the San Jose Ranch Company, the first to lay out the city's street. Afterward, small business began opening and eventually the town took a new name: San Dimas. Until the mid-1900s, oranges were the main crop and industry in San Dimas, with the Sunkist name originating here.
