Perris was founded as a result of the construction of a Railroad depot in the late 1800s during the Southern California boom period. Named after Railway engineer Fred T. Perris, the city was to be built along the railway that connected the cities of San Diego and Barstow.
At the recording of the 2010 census, Perris had a population of 71,326 residents. The area is known as a popular skydiving destination, attracting tourists and professional skydivers. Perris is referred to as “The Skydiving Capital of America” by amateurs and professionals alike. In the movie The Bucket List, the skydiving scenes were filmed near the city and boasted such stars as Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.
