A city of Los Angeles County, Paramount is home to over 54,090 residents as recorded by the 2010 census. The city is part of the Greater Los Angeles region of California, bordered by Compton, Lynwood, South Gate, Downey, Bellflower, and Long Beach. Paramount got its economic start thanks to the hay and dairy industries but these were altogether phased out by 1977 due to the high cost of land in the area. Paramount is home to the Hay Tree landmark, declared an historical site, it is a mature camphor tree from the former era known for its importance to the hay industry. The city is also headquarters to the Zamboni Company, started by Frank Joseph Zamboni Jr.
