Found in Orange County, Newport Beach was incorporated in 1906 and is an affluent city 10 miles south of downtown Santa Ana. It is home to 85,287 residents as of the 2010 census. Newport Beach is also home to the Newport Harbor, a popular inlet for trade and tourism. The median income per family ranks high consistently in national rankings. Development in the area began after the Pacific Electric Railway's southern terminus was built there in 1905, connecting the area with downtown L.A. In 1906 it incorporated its scattered settlements totaling 206 people into the city of Newport Beach. Since then, the city has since annexes several more communities and continues to grow today.
