Found in the Los Angeles County region of Southern California, Lomita is home to a population of 20,256 residents as of the 2010 census. The name Lomita is spanish for “little knoll”. At an elevation of 95 feet, Lomita has a semi-arid climate, mostly comfortable throughout the year with some extreme temperatures in the summer and winter months. Lomita was historicall a former part of the Rancho San Pedro land grant by the Spanish Empire to Juan Jose Dominguez of King Carlos III from Spain circa 1784. Until the annexation of territory by several of its neighbors, Lomita was originally 7 square miles in total.
