Found between Palm Desert and La Quinta, and part of the Coachella Valley, Indian Wells has over 4,900 residents and is host to the famed tennis tournament of the same name. The Indian Wells Masters Tournament takes place inside the 16,100-seat stadium found in the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Aside from tennis, the city is also popular for its Golf history. The first Bob Hope Desert Classic Tournament took place here in 1960 with Arnold Palmer taking first place. The area was also a favorite stop for former President Dwight Eisenhower and celebrity Desi Arnaz who built the Indian Wells Hotel, now called the Indian Wells Resort Hotel, in 1957.
