Hawaiian Gardens is Los Angeles County's smallest city, only 1 mile wide at its largest point. The city was incorporated in 1964 and has a population of over 14,250 today. Interestingly enough the city got its name from a themed refreshment stand in the 1920s, it was decorated with palms and bamboo. Back when the city was more rural, it was a landmark in the area for many years. Hawaiian Gardens is one of seven Los Angeles County cities that allows casino gambling, with about 65% of the city's annual revenue coming from the gambling industry.
