With a population of over 201,800 residents, Fontana is known as the second largest city in San Bernardino County. The city was a rural area in its beginnings but during WWII a large steel mill was built there and it began to grow and become more urban. Founded by Azariel Blanchard Miller in 1913, Fontana is a desert area. The city is now known as a regional hub for interstate trucks, making their way across California via the State Route 210 as well as the Interstate 10. Fontana is the location of the fastest half marathon course in the world, known as the Fontana Days Half Marathon and 5k run. The city itself is located between the Cajon Pass and Mount Jurupa.
