Found enclosed in rocky foothills lies the city of Escondido. Escondido is part of the North County area of California. One of the oldest cities founded in San Diego County, Escondido was founded in 1888. It's also one of the largest cities in Southern California, with a population of over 143,900 residents as of the 2010 census.
The name Escondido is Spanish for “hidden” and is known for its gorgeous scenery and for its location near the Mexican border. Escondido, along with many other Southern Californian cities, was founded by the Luiseno people. The city itself was based around a creek, a preferred spot for people to construc their homesteads and settlements. Locals refer to Escondido as “The City of Choice,” and its a fitting motto for a beautiful city.
